Submission of papers

BAR is a fully open-access online journal that abides by the principles of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and DORA (San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment). It does not charge authors, readers or institutions in any way and does not organize special issues as per the request of individuals, institutions or conferences.

Improving your chances of getting published

In order to improve your chances of getting published, please double-check your paper vis-à-vis the following issues:

  1. Your paper must contribute to theory and practice in the field of business or public administration.
  2. Your paper must address advancements to the frontiers of scholarly knowledge and organizational practice on a global scale instead of providing insights to a particular country or region.
  3. Most of your paper’s bibliographical references must be based on up-to-date articles published in reputed scholarly journals available in English.
  4. Your paper must make reference to classic authors and current developments on the theories mentioned in the paper.
  5. Your article must fit BAR’s editorial policies (please read previously published articles).
  6. Your article must be clearly aligned to the interests of public or business administration instead of being borderline to other fields such as sociology, anthropology, or economy.
  7. Your paper must be formatted according to the APA guidelines.
  8. Your paper must clearly state a compelling research question and the conceptual model (preferably by means of a figure).
  9. Your paper’s methodology must be described in due detail and must have been skillfully crafted to properly address the conceptual model and answer the research question.
  10. Your paper must be thoroughly checked for scholarly and English writing.

Instructions for submission

BAR uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (http://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/bar-scielo) for document submission, double-blind peer review, editorial decisions, and editorial team management. Documents should be thus submitted electronically after the user creates his or her account on the platform. To create your account, please follow the on-screen instructions, filling in the requested information. Your username will be your preferred email address. During account creation, you may be given the option to associate an ORCID iD with the account by either registering for a new ORCID iD or retrieving a current ORCID iD. We encourage all authors to register for ORCID, a non-profit, transparent, community-based effort to give all research activity a unique identifier. ORCID iD is mandatory for accepted articles.

Please, also check the BAR's statement of privacy.

Submitted articles must be unpublished and should not be under consideration for publication in any other journal. Previous publication of papers in conference proceedings would not violate the originality requirements, but we recommend that articles are significantly improved after the conference presentation. Articles must be written in English. BAR’s editorial scope does not include teaching cases or purely applied practitioner-oriented technical material. There should be no more than five authors per article.

Our Submission Manual has been carefully prepared to facilitate the editorial process of submitting articles online. Therefore, please observe the formatting instructions carefully. The formatting of citations and references must match the norms of the American Psychological Association (APA). A submission that does not comply with the journal’s requirements will be returned to the authors.

Analysis of articles for publication

  1. Article review consists of two stages. In the first stage, the editor-in-chief and an associate editor (chosen by the editor-in-chief based on the article’s main topic and methods) verify the relevance of the submitted article, its alignment with the journal’s editorial scope, and other aspects including originality and contribution to the area of submission. Only articles the editors consider relevant to the academic community and, in particular, to the journal’s audience, proceed to further stages. Articles that pass the first stage of analysis are sent to double-blind, peer review by at least two reviewers assigned by the associate editor.
  2. Neither ANPAD nor its editors are responsible for the opinions, ideas and concepts included in published materials beyond concurring with the potential academic impact on the literature. The authors bear full authority and responsibility for their articles.
  3. In order to be published, authors must sign the Copyrights Letter, which is sent to the authors by e-mail, thus granting rights, including translation, to BAR.

BAR adopts iThenticate to control for plagiarism.
There are no fees for submitting, reviewing or publishing articles in BAR.
